Anne sato, cello

Cellist Anne Sato is a Midwest native who made Portland her new home in 2015.

Anne studied with Carleton McCreery at Lawrence University Conservatory of Music in Wisconsin, completing her BMus degree in Performance at DePaul University in Chicago, Il. While at DePaul, Anne studied with Gilda Barston, both in applied cello and long-term Suzuki Pedagogy (Cello Books 1-7). Additional Suzuki teacher training was completed with Tanya Carey, Jean Dexter, and Barabara Wampner. Studio teachers also included Hans Schmettau, Joseph (Sam) Sciachitano, and in master class with Lynn Harrell.

Anne has played with the Breval Music Festival Orchestra, N.C., Chicago Civic Symphony, Idaho State Civic Symphony, Green Bay Symphony, and most recently with the Portland Columbia Symphony. She also played extensively in the Chicago area as a freelance musician.

Anne has pioneered and taught for numerous Suzuki cello programs including The Chicago Music Institute, Chicago Waldorf School, Baker Demonstration School, Univ. of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, American Suzuki Institute, Idaho State Univ., and many wonderful programs in the Chicago suburbs. She has maintained private studios in Wisconsin, Chicago, and Pocatello, Id., and was director of the Idaho State Summer Strings Camp.

In Chicago, Anne also worked for 15 years as a massage therapist. She loves gardening, cooking, walking, and being a Mom. Currently, Anne teaches cello and chamber music for Rose City Music at Catlin Gabel, at her private studio in Beaverton, in our summer camps, and in student’s homes.
